Dulce grew up in extreme poverty. Before joining the Gift of Hope program, she worked at a tortilla factory where she earned the equivalent of $2.00 a day, with which she bought bread or tortillas for her family and medicine for her mother, who suffers from chronic health conditions.

When she enrolled in the Gift of Hope program, she wanted to succeed in her studies in order to provide a good life for her family in the future. She attended a technical high school with a focus in biology, but the classes were so difficult that she was tempted to abandon her studies.

Thanks to the after-school program and the encouragement of Florinda, who mentors the students in Guatemala, Dulce did not give up. She proudly graduated from technical school and is entering nursing school this year. Her dream is to become a nurse so that she can help her mother and the poor in need.

Dulce is grateful to God, the missionaries, and the Gift of Hope sponsors. She says:
